Review: Sympathy for the Devil by Gregg Levine

What if you could change your world?
Sympathy For The Devil is the very original story about a fallen angel who decided it was time to change his world, find his way home, and create anew…in his own image.
“He showed me things, ways of doing things, ways to live, ways to make magic. Now I know you may not believe me when I tell you this, but I’m not talking about tricks, oh no, I mean real magic. Magic that can make things happen, magic that can actually manifest things into reality. He gave me everything and he never asked for anything in return, almost.” – Sympathy For The Devil
On an ordinary Saturday afternoon, Mr. Homan, an old man at a young age because of a mystery illness, was on his way home from watching a local baseball game. After falling and nearly drowning in a simple puddle in the street, Mr. Homan is saved by a mysterious stranger known as the Master. The Master offers Mr. Homan more than just a helping hand, he offers Mr. Homan his health and his life back, but at a price.
In a city like this, another murder would be business as usual, but there was nothing usual about this murder to investigator Donavan Diego because what the public didn’t know was that this murder was only one of over thirty in a series of slayings that police still had only two leads on. The first lead was the nameless John Doe who was the only victim to somehow survive one of the vicious attacks. However, the attack left John Doe mangled, locked up in an insane asylum, and refusing to speak. The other lead was the first suspect and the person who police realized knew most of the victims, at least most of the ones that could be identified. That person and first suspect was Donavan Diego himself and it was all part of the Master’s plan.
Over eight years in the making, Sympathy For The Devil is a gripping mystery unlike anything you have ever read with tons of twists that will keep you mesmerized until the very last sentence. However, at the heart and soul of Sympathy For The Devil is a unique story of fighting for what you must against all odds and personal evolution.

This book is a huge surprise, what an unique concept. Mr. Homan is a young man in a old man's body. he is in a lot of pain and can hardly function. His only distraction is his Saturday's in the Ball park.
On day when he is on his way back home it starts to rain and hard winds, he can barely keep himself standing and a stranger offers him help. And asks him "what if you could have your health and youth back again, what are you willing to do for that?"

Then there is Donavan a journalist who works close with the police to figure out this serial killer, that is going around. a very cruel one. they have only one survivor, who refuses to talk.  He is the only one who can help them, because they have no leads, nothing proof wise to get by, how to resolve all this and find the killer.

It is a sit on the edge of your chair, I can't lay down kinda book. Great characters, strong story and plots all through the book, I love, love, loved it! can't wait to read more from Gregg Levine.

Review: Ember by Liz Schulte

Ember (Jinn Trilogy Book One) by Liz Schulte

Holden told Olivia it was only a matter of time before Hell came for them. After all, one doesn’t just walk away from the life he lived unscathed, but the longer Hell waited, the more Olivia let down her guard. She believed maybe happily ever after was possible—he knew it wasn’t.
But when Baker shows up beaten and bloody on their doorstep with a message, all hope evaporates. The jinn make Holden an offer he can’t refuse: convince Olivia to free them all and the jinn will fight Hell alongside them. However, if their past has proved anything, it’s that the jinn cannot be trusted. When Olivia starts hearing a voice that no one can identify and Baker isn’t acting like himself, he is forced to make a decision.
With Heaven staying hands off, Holden considers accepting the jinn’s offer behind Olivia’s back. One thing is clear, with their lives and the lives all those they hold dear at stake, something has to be done. If it were as easy as Holden going back to the jinn, he would do it in a heartbeat, but Hell wants more than his soul this time—they want Olivia’s too.

My Review:

It was so great reading more about Holden and Olivia, after the guardian trilogy, I couldn't wait. And they are back, as good as always. Hell is sure trying to put a number on them again. I adored Baker, He has a great humor... Holden is in this book a bit wilder, more violent. Evil vs Good strong story and characters. Love it so much almost read it in one sit. Bring on the next Liz! I want to read more!

Review Scattered Links by M Weidenbenner

Scattered Links is a novel that pulls its characters from the gutters and, in the end, celebrates the tenacity of the human spirit.
Thirteen-year-old Oksana lives on the streets of Russia with her pregnant mama and abusive aunt—both prostitutes. When Mama swells into labor, Oksana makes a decision to save herself from abandonment, a decision that torments her forever. When her plan fails and her aunt dumps her in an orphanage, she never has the chance to say goodbye to her mama or tell her the secret that haunts her.
Scattered Links is a story of family and the consequences that come from never learning how to love, of a girl’s inability to bond with her adopted family and the frustrations that follow.
How can a child understand the mechanics of forming a healthy relationship when she never had a mother who answered her cries, held her when she was frightened, fed her when she was hungry, or loved her unconditionally?
Only when the child meets a rescued abused horse, and recognizes the pain in his eyes, does she begin to trust again.

My Review:

Oksana is a poor Russian girl, she lives with her mother and aunt in abandoned buildings. Her aunt takes her out to steal or fool people into giving Oksana things. not that Oksana ever sees something of it. She is hungry and her mother high pregnant. When time comes to deliver the babies, Oksana is on her own with her mother. Good thing she learned a thing or two from a former neighbour.

When she and her sister are dropped of a orphan house Oksana's world stops, all she wants is her mother. Then one day her sister is adopted and Oksana tries to stop them, but to her horror they adopt her too, she doesn't want to go to America, she heard horror stories about it. She does not adjust well till she met her aunt's" horse who is very much hurt, she recognize herself in him and they bound instantly. Oksana has hard times, till her "aunt" takes her back to Russia to find her mother to help her close that chapter.... Will Oksana stay there, or go back to that States??? will she tell her mother the secret she has been carrying around since the day she delivered her baby sister?
This is one of the best books I have read so far, We all know it isn't so rich in Russia but this bad? I can't wait to read more of this author.

About The Author:

Sarah Daltry writes about the regular people who populate our lives. She's written works in various genres - romance, erotica, fantasy, horror. Genre isn't as important as telling a story about people and how their lives unfold. Sarah tends to focus on YA/NA characters but she's been known to shake it up. Most of her stories are about relationships - romantic, familial, friendly - because love and empathy are the foundation of life. It doesn't matter if the story is set in contemporary NY, historical Britain, or a fantasy world in the future - human beings are most interesting in the ways they interact with others. This is the principle behind all of Sarah's stories.

Sarah has spent most of her life in school, from her BA and MA in English and writing to teaching both at the high school and college level. She also loves studying art history and really anything because learning is fun.

When Sarah isn't writing, she tends to waste a lot of time checking Facebook for pictures of cats, shooting virtual zombies, and simply staring out the window.

Excerpt:

Later that day, at lunch, I had just found a seat by the window when he sat across from me. I was used to sitting alone. He didn’t say anything, and he had nothing to eat. He looked up at me, though, after a few minutes, and his eyes did it again. I hated my body, hated the way I looked, hated that somehow I owed my body and my looks to everyone else. But when Jack looked at me, I wanted to let someone touch me. I wanted him to hold me. He felt like safety.
It didn’t even make sense. He was just a broken kid, like me. He always wore the same threadbare hoodie. Most days, it covered his head. He was cute, but awkward. His hair was too long and usually greasy. His Chucks were a little too big, so they looked a little like clown shoes. Yet those gorgeous eyes were all I cared about. I hadn’t considered guys at all. I didn’t find them attractive, and I certainly couldn’t see the appeal of sex or of intimacy. With Jack, though, the thought of him near me didn’t make me nauseous.
“Do you want my orange?” I asked him.
“Are you sure?”
It wasn’t a groundbreaking question. But it was how I knew that what I naturally felt for Jack was right. Because no one had ever asked me that. No one had asked if I minded, if I was sure, if something was okay. They just took things.
“Yeah.”
He took it and I handed him my knife. It was flimsy plastic and wouldn’t even pierce the rind, so I took the orange back and peeled it with my fingernails. Jack just watched me and, when I handed him the orange, now peeled, he smiled. His upper lip curled more than it should have and he looked silly, smiling at an orange. But he drew the same smile from me.
“Thank you,” he said, and he pulled two slices free from the whole and handed them back to me. I didn’t eat them right away. I just watched him eat his part. He was messy and he ended up covering himself in the juices. He unzipped his hoodie after the orange squirted down the front. Underneath, he was wearing a washed out blue T-shirt with a train on it. He looked ten.
“Nice shirt,” I teased.
He looked down. “I live with my grandmother. She has no concept of clothes.”
“It’s cute.”
He smiled again and it was less awkward this time. “Do you live with your grandmother, too?”
I was wearing a huge black sweater over baggy black pants. “No. I just… I don’t like people looking at me.”
“Yeah. I get that.”
He didn’t tell me that I was too pretty to dress the way I did; he didn’t say my body was too good to hide. He just went back to eating his orange, letting the juice spill all over the train shirt. We were fourteen, but I already knew Jack would always be the only thing that mattered in my future.

About the author:

Sharon Kay was bitten early by the writing bug. At age twelve she wrote a short story, about a magic ring, that won a statewide Young Authors contest. With her nose always in a book, she read the most novels for her age group in her local library’s summer reading program. In her teens, writing took a back seat to fashion, as she was determined to find clothes different from what everyone else bought at the mall. And what she couldn’t find, she created. She learned to sew, worked in a fabric store after school, and spent her spare time with a needle in hand. Her black and orange prom dress is still one of her favorite creations. Sharon lives in the Chicago area with her husband and son, and didn’t expect to write again. But Wicked Wind and the Solsti series formed in her head one weekend and refused to stay quiet until she put pen to paper. Came to Be A couple of years ago I was doing a coaching call with one of my clients discussing how to live a happy way of life. During our call out of the blue I felt a powerful impression to write a new book to be titled “Ridiculously Happy!”. The thought and image of my future book was crystal clear in my minds’ eye, I knew that I was supposed to write about my own phenomenal life and body transformation explaining how I was able to go from being chronically ill to having immense love and joy in my life. I giggled with delight upon finishing my call and then excitedly called my husband and told him of what I had just experienced. Soon after I began writing my first manuscript (little did I know what it took to write a completed book and that I had a long road ahead of me). Upon finishing my rough draft I sent it off to an editor only to have it come back not as I had envisioned. I soon came to realize that I had a lot of work to do to write my second rendition of my manuscript. Shortly thereafter I had a misfortune accident while doing a photo shoot on my Friesian stallion, he lost his footing while cantering on wet grass and fell landing on my left leg. Thankfully he walked away without harm but I wasn’t fortunate and I ended up with a horrible concussion which took me nearly a year to heal from. I spent most of the next eight months in bed not being able to write or even read a book. Needless to say I had a lot of time on my hands and had a lot of time to contemplate my book. After I was well enough to write again I began to rewrite my manuscript from scratch. During my healing time I was impressed upon how to rewrite my book. It was a labor of love that’s for sure. I spent months writing and rewriting as I found it difficult to think clearly at times. But in the end my book “Ridiculously Happy!” came to be. It was a quite the journey to experience synchronicity play a role in my life on a continual basis. I am passionate about helping as many women as I can across the world by sharing the life changing teaching in my book. My book offers a step-by-step process to truly transform ones’ life. I share how I teach my clients how to shift and connect their body, mind and spirit to truly live the lives to that of their dreams. My book tools to help you implement the teachings, it has exercises and success stories to inspire and motivate. My book came together in the end just as I had envisioned. The pleasures of writing my book filled my heart and home with eagerness and excitement as I got closer to completing my goal. My family also took part in the creation of my book with their love, support and enthusiasm for its completion. I hope you too are able to fully experience the joy and fulfillment your heart longs for. By implementing the teaching and principles in my book you will have the tools to truly live the life of your dreams! Carol Whitaker is the author of Ridiculously Happy! Scattered Links, (initially titled Love is Just a Word), was the winner of the 2013 Aspiring Writers Competition, sponsored by Write on Con and The Reading Room. Scattered Links was intended to show a glimpse into the life of a child with RAD, reactive attachment disorder, so prevalent in children who never had unconditional love in infancy. This novel was inspired by Michelle’s journey to Russia to adopt her orphan daughter. Upon seeing the neglect of orphanage children and learning of the effects of RAD in post-institutionalized children, Michelle researched this disorder, committed to giving her daughter the best chance at a healthy life. Sadly, many parents can’t cope with the behavior from kids with RAD and re-home their children like pets.

Review: Meant for me by L.P. Dover

After a night of raw passion with the man Claire O’Briene had been secretly admiring for years, she thought their time together had come once and for all. Fate had finally brought them back to each other, but unfortunately nothing had changed. He was still the same man who ran away from relationships. Against his better judgment, Mason Bradley gave in to the temptation and allowed himself one night with the one woman he’d been too afraid to want … too afraid to need.
Four months after leaving Claire and regretting every minute of it, Mason gets called in for an undercover mission that’s not only dangerous, but brings back a past he spent years trying to forget. A past of fighting … of getting in the ring and using his fists to get what he wanted: money, women, and drugs. Now there are fighters turning up dead, and it’s Mason’s job to find out the truth.Knowing he might not come out of the mission alive, Mason seeks out Claire to tell her how he truly feels, only to find another man competing for her love as well. Fighting is what he’s good at, and for once he will be fighting not only for justice … but for love.

My Review:

Mason and Claire had been through rough times, and Claire doesn't trust him much after he run away from her. But Mason can't forget her and they come back together it is hot and steamy. Mason is called in for an undercover job, which will bring him back into the fighters scene, someone he doesn't really want, but there have been several deaths. One of them his best friend. Mason starts to train again and wins from one of the champions. after that things move fast, Claire is kidnapped, Mason is stuck in a dead match and all they both wonder is...... will they be on time, will Mason's team safe them before it is to late, will they have a future together???? ,................... For you to find out, it is totally worth it, I read it in one sit.

Guest post: Arcadia's gift by Jesi Lea Ryan

 By Jesi Lea Ryan

Most people who experience death don’t live to tell about it.
When sixteen year old Arcadia “Cady” Day wakes in a hospital after experiencing what can only be called a psychic episode, she finds her family in tatters. With her twin sister gone, her dad moved out, her mom’s spiraling depression and her sister’s boyfriend, Cane, barely able to look at her, the only bright spot in her life is Bryan Sullivan, the new guy in school. When Bryan’s around, Cady can almost pretend she’s a regular girl, living a regular life; when he’s not, she’s wracked with wild, inexplicable mood swings. As her home life crumbles and her emotional control slips away, Cady begins to suspect that her first psychic episode was just the beginning…

Rooting paranormal fiction in realism I think we can all agree, no matter how cool they sound in theory, that vampires are not real. *Shocked face* Neither are werewolves or faeries or angels/demons (at least not the kind from urban fantasy novels). But what about psychics? Hmmm...just maybe. That’s the thought I originally had when I had the idea to write my young adult, paranormal novels Arcadia’s Gift & Arcadia’s Curse. I’ve always been fascinated by psychic phenomena. Unfortunately, I don’t have an ounce of psychic intuition, but that doesn’t stop my generally skeptical mind from wondering about the possibilities of a paranormal story that is rooted in reality. Sounds like an oxymoron, but I rolled with it, and my character, Arcadia (Cady) Day, psychic empath, was born. “Our bodies have five senses: touch, smell, taste, sight, hearing. But not to be overlooked are the senses of our souls: intuition, peace, foresight, trust, empathy. The differences between people lie in their use of these senses; most people don't know anything about the inner senses while a few people rely on them just as they rely on their physical senses, and in fact probably even more.” — C. JoyBell C. Early in my research, I stumbled upon the above quote, and I decided to base my entire fictional world on it. In my series, the soul senses were once common in early humans, but over time, as verbal and written communication flourished, these senses devolved out of the gene pool...mostly. Now, a very minor percentage of people have the recessive genes for these soul senses, and each soul sense corresponds to a psychic ability. Soul Senses Intuition Peace Foresight Trust Empathy Corresponding Psychic Gift Telepathy, Dream Walking, Clairvoyance, Clairaudience Medium, Spirit Handler Future-Teller Charismatic, Telekinetic, Hydrokinetic, Pyrokinetic Empathy, Healing Usually, the soul senses manifest themselves during puberty, but in Cady’s case, hers became active after a traumatic event. I chose to write about a psychic empath because I hadn’t read about one before. Lots of paranormal books have telepaths, mediums and telekinetics, and sometimes an empath is a side character or it is a secondary ability for the main character, but I had never read a book with a main character who was primarily an empath. (I know there are books out there with empathic characters, but I make a point now not to read them for fear they may influence my work.) I spent a lot of time doing Google searches on empathy, and didn’t come up with a lot of useful information. However, I did stumble upon a suggestion that an empath may have a larger aura field than most people, and maybe this is how they can feel the emotions of others who step into their aura. Sounded good to me, so I ran with it. Taking a “normal” sixteen year old girl and turning her into an empath overnight was a bit tricky. I wanted her to have the ability there all along, lingering just below the surface of her personality, so when the triggering event happens, the empathic abilities made sense. The first thing I did was make Cady a naturally compassionate person. She gives people the benefit of the doubt, tries to get along with others and has a huge soft-spot for animals. Secondly, Cady is an identical twin. There is lots of research on the psychic bonds between twins, so *SMALL SPOILER* when her twin sister is killed, their auras would naturally reach toward each other, thus stretching Cady’s aura field so out of shape, it never snaps back. Ta da! A psychic empath is born! Along the course of learning to use, grow and control her abilities, Cady meets several other psychics with varying gifts.
