Guest Post: Finding Home by Mathew Chase

While safety and peace seem like they should be birthrights, some of us are born into situations that simply don’t allow for these niceties. With a father who sold drugs and a mother who depended on them, the world felt anything but calm to author Mathew Chase.
Growing up in one of the toughest parts of Philadelphia, Mathew learned things in his first few years of life that most of us never have to learn, like how to survive hunger when there’s no food in the house and no one there to notice . . . how not to cry or show fear while being beat with a shoe by a foster parent . . . how to mask any signs of vulnerability when passing the dealers and gangsters on the street . . . or how to fight when one or a bunch of kids jump you on your way home from school.
Somehow, Mathew knew he had a choice. He could conform to the status quo and become a victim of the mentality generated by this environment, or he could find a way to break free and build a different kind of life. Joining the U.S. military at age 18 as an exit route from what he’d known forever seemed like a promising solution, but it carried an exacting price tag of its own.
Mathew’s childhood began to seem like it had been easy compared to the brutality of training and fighting in Iraq while witnessing the slaying of friends who had become like brothers. Would Mathew ever find home? Follow the author’s journey through seemingly endless challenges and failures to understand how these selfsame circumstances mold him into a mature and courageous man. In Finding Home, pain and heartbreak are transformed to what they truly are – stepping stones to ultimate strength and personal freedom.

Guest Post:

I would like to say a little bit more about the character Braun. His passing affected me deeply. I allowed myself to mourn for four days. After that I had to put it behind me while we were still deployed. You can’t carry that kind of weight around while you’re on missions.

I remember it feeling like it had happened so fast. It would be this situation that would strengthen my faith in a God or a higher power. I felt that if lives could be taken that fast, that it had to stand for something. There has to be something more after this. It can’t be just for nothing.

It has also changed the way I believe we should allow the passing’s of close ones to effect us. Death is mostly mourned in today’s world. I believe it should be the opposite. Death should be celebrated, maybe even looked at as freedom from a life that was hard and enduring. It gives me comfort to believe that our loved ones are resting in peace.

Review: The Trouble With Snowmen by Dorlana Vann

Snowmen drift into your life like they were sent from above. The relationship is great, rolls right along, and builds. Everything seems perfect … until a little heat is introduced. Then they melt, leaving only their hat, their scarf, something to remind their victims of what they’d lost.
Urban cowgirl Haley Monroe is told that the fabulously hot guy who just dumped her was a snowman. Her friend Maximilian convinces her that the only way she’ll ever stop being played by snowmen is to become one. It takes a lot of drinks to work up the nerve, but Haley gets her sexy on and goes on the prowl.
Famous horror author Larry White drops everything to attend a midnight séance at Maximilian’s apartment where he meets Haley. By the way she’s dressed—and just propositioned him—he assumes she’s a hooker. Larry can’t pass up the chance to get inside her head, especially since prostitution is the character’s occupation in his next book.
After spending the weekend together, unexpected sparks surprise both Haley and Larry. The trouble is Haley is dead-set on snowmanning the unkempt “starving artist” she met at the séance, and Larry doesn’t think he could have a real relationship with a woman with a past, so they go their separate ways.
The real fun begins when they meet again and find out neither one of them were who they thought they were. Can they reignite the flame? Or will they have a snowman’s chance in hell?

                                                My Review:

About the Author:

I could write this in the third person. I could tell you what I like, where I was born, and what my favorite things are.

But instead, I'll say I don't want to write like everyone else. I don't want to craft stories you've read a thousand times before. I want my novels to be a cinematic experience, blending themes, genres, and situations unlike any you've ever read.

I want to break the rules. I want you to break out in a cold sweat as you read my books out of fear, love, and excitement. I want my books to be an experience. When you finish, I want you to feel something. Good or bad.

If you do, then I'll have succeeded. If not, I'll keep trying.

Guest Post: Dairy of a Single Wedding Planner by Violet Howe

Wedding planner Tyler Warren left heartbreak behind when she ran away from her small Southern hometown and started a new life in a big city. Years later, she wants to believe in the fairy-tale endings her job promotes, but the clients she meets day after day seem to be more “Crazily Ever After” than “Happily Ever After.”
Meanwhile, her own attempts at romance play out as bizarre comedies rather than love stories, and she’s starting to think Prince Charming either fell off his horse or got eaten by a dragon. When unresolved issues from Tyler’s past complicate things even further, she discovers she may yet have some things to figure out before she can find her own happy ending.
This delightful first book in the Tales Behind the Veils series chronicles Tyler’s wacky misadventures, both personal and professional. Whether she’s getting insane requests from brides or outlandish requests on dates, you’re sure to be charmed and entertained by the Diary of a Single Wedding Planner.

                                                   Guest Post:
LIFE AS A DIARY ENTRY
Writing in a diary is probably one of the easiest ways to write. You don’t have to use complete sentences or proper grammar. There’s no set structure or outline to follow. No rules on how it must be done.
Since a diary is intended to be private, you don’t have to worry if your writing makes sense, or if it sounds absurd. You don’t have to censor what you say or worry about how it will be perceived.
However, if you choose to publish a novel and you write in diary format, all that goes out the window.
When I first started pulling together the scenes of my story about wedding planner Tyler Warren, everything came to me in the main character’s voice. The story in my head was from her point of view. So I made a fateful decision to write as though the reader had access to Tyler’s diary.
In some ways, it was great. Tyler could give everyone insight into her thoughts and feelings, her fears and insecurities, and her hopes and dreams. The diary structure also gave me an easy way to track time and events, especially during busy wedding weekends and holiday seasons that occurred in the story.
I soon found that the format posed a few challenges, however.  After all, you don’t write out all the details in your diary. You already know who the characters are in your life, so you wouldn’t explain how you met your best friend, or what happened when your dad died years ago, or what led you to leave your hometown.  And you certainly wouldn’t write out dialogue between you and your friends with quotation marks or recount every line of a telephone conversation word for word.
Tyler had no choice, though. In order for the reader to know the backstory and move through the plot line, Tyler had to go into details that no one in real life would ever take the time to record. I struggled to convey the backstory and character interactions without making her diary completely unrealistic.
As with any first person point of view, the diary limited the story to only what Tyler knew. Several times I wished I could let the reader in on what another character was thinking or feeling, but unless it was obvious to Tyler or discussed with her, she wouldn’t know. So neither would her diary.
It definitely pushed me to find ways to reveal information without letting Tyler in on the secret, and to convey her journal entries in such a way that the reader could be engaged in the whole story rather than feel they only knew one character.
I don’t know if I would write another series in a diary format, but it’s given me something to think about. In real life, we tend to see things from our own point of view, only understanding where other people stand when it’s made obvious to us or explicitly told to us in no uncertain terms. We make decisions based on our own thoughts and feelings. Sometimes we assume things because of what we think we already know.
Perhaps we could all benefit from expanding our point of view to include the thoughts and feelings of those around us. After all, life isn’t lived in a diary.

A man without faith shares his views as the end of life approaches. The views are reflections on religion, morality and death. The deeply religious will find little of interest here and may find some of the material incomprehensible. Some moderates who have noticed twinges of doubt or discomfort in certain beliefs may find some explanations for those feelings. The faithless will probably understand it all. It is the author's hope that for them, it will be a pleasant read.

Mary’s never been completely honest with anyone–especially herself.
The man she’s supposed to marry reminds her of her father in ways she’s suppressed for years–controlling, abusive, and manipulative. The sisters she’s finally found don’t understand her shame or confusion.
When Ian enters the picture with his British accent and Montana tan, Mary starts to question the past and her loyalty to a father who took away all her chances at true happiness.
Can Mary help her sisters break free from their father’s diabolical past? Or will his sins corrupt any chance at true happiness with Ian? And herself?

Mary however starts to "Wake-up" after meeting I an a sexy, cowboy with and British accent. He is sweet to and for her, Mary starts to doubt her relationship with her fiancee and the picture she has of her father.
Can her sisters and Ian save her from her relationship before it is to late?

Another good book, I love Bonnie's way of writing, she creates strong characters,  I adore Ian and Gma Nell they are so close. I love it when Ian will just go and buy her wool And Mary has awesome sisters.
